Rocky Mountain Riders Snowmobile Club Secures Agreement for Morfee Mountain Cabin

The BC Snowmobile Federation (BCSF) is thrilled to announce an exciting development from the Rocky Mountain Riders Snowmobile Club in MacKenzie, BC. The club has successfully received a Section 57 Establishment Order with Recreation Sites and Trails BC (RSTBC) for the Morfee Mountain Cabin.

Situated at an elevation of 1410 meters on the east shoulder of Morfee Mountain in the Hart Range, the day-use shelter offers stunning views of the picturesque community of MacKenzie and is conveniently located just 14 kilometers from town. The original cabin, constructed legally by the Rocky Mountain Riders, had deteriorated over the years due to heavy use. In response, the club and the community collaborated to build a new cabin using donated materials and volunteer labor, not realizing that they needed to obtain permission to replace the existing structure. This oversight resulted in a Trespass Order being issued on the cabin six years ago.

With the cabin in Trespass, the Rocky Mountain Riders Snowmobile Club was unable to maintain the cabin or pursue any development initiatives until the necessary paperwork was completed. We are now pleased to share that the cabin has received the proper authorizations and can continue to serve the community of MacKenzie.

The successful resolution of this issue was made possible with the strong support of the local community and First Nations. Their backing has been instrumental in ensuring that this valuable community asset remains for generations to come. We deeply appreciate the support provided by the First Nations and the broader community, which has been crucial in making this step forward.

In addition to securing the Morfee Mountain Cabin, the Rocky Mountain Riders Snowmobile Club has submitted applications to address the Virgin Valley Cabin and Keith's Cabin, which are in similar Trespass status. These applications are currently under review, and the club is making significant progress toward formalizing agreements for these shelters as well.

The BCSF congratulates the Rocky Mountain Riders Snowmobile Club on these significant achievements and their dedication to enhancing the snowmobiling experience in the MacKenzie region. We look forward to seeing the positive impact of these efforts on the local community and snowmobiling enthusiasts.
