VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: PAISLEY EVANS, HUNTER’S RANGE SNOWMOBILE Association
VOLUNTEERS COME IN A VARIETY OF SHAPES AND SIZES - BUT THEY ARE ALL REAL LIFE SUPERHERO’S.
Regardless of your background, experience, or age… every snowmobiler has something valuable to contribute to their local riding community.
We have been incredibly inspired by nine-year-old Paisley Evans from the Hunter’s Range Snowmobile Association in Enderby, BC. She was awarded ‘Youth Snowmobiler of the Year’ at the 2021 BCSF Excellence Awards for her infectious spirit and dedication to the sport of snowmobiling.
Paisley’s Dad (Justin) and Mom (Kyra) are life long volunteers with the club, as were her grandparents. We sat down with this little spark to hear where her driving spirit comes from, her favorite memories, and the legacy she wants to build for future riders.
Paisley, can you remember your first time on a snowmobile?
I remember riding my kitty cat (which was my moms first snowmobile) around my Papa’s field. I can’t remember how old I was, maybe like 2. My Dad had to help me.
How did you come to be involved with volunteering for the Hunter’s Range Snowmobile Association?
Because my Mom & Dad are volunteers, and I like to be with my friends that snowmobile.
What are your favorite things to do to help out the club?
Working the concession for our events, and helping Mom & Dad clean the cabin. Especially when I get to go in the groomer with Dad.
What should parents know about getting their kids involved in snowmobiling or volunteering with their snowmobile club?
Parents should bring their kids to volunteer so that they can learn how to do things for the snowmobile club, so the kids can take them over when they get older. Snowmobiling with my friends is my favourite.
"Paisley wears her HRSA hoodie with pride, she loves seeing her name on the membership list, always wants to come out in the snow cat with me, and loves our days sledding on the mountain with her family and friends.
She’s made me remember why I do so much for the club and why I need to continue to do what I can to help keep it going for years to come."
~Justin Evans (Dad)
What do you want to tell other kids or parents about snowmobiling?
If you’re going to teach your kid how to snowmobile, you need to be focused. Snowmobiling is fun, but sometimes it’s challenging. I like to challenge myself to do new things, like standing on one side and making it up some big hills. The more you try & practice, the better you will get. I learn more things every time I go out.
The Hunter’s Range Snowmobile Association was awarded the prestigious Canadian Council of Snowmobile Organization’s Club of the Year in 2021, largely in part to their inclusive and engaging volunteer efforts. Watch the club video and learn more about sledding in Enderby, BC HERE.
