Announcing the 2024 ORV Trail Fund Recipients

In conjunction with Recreation Sites and Trails BC, we are thrilled to announce the 2024 recipients of the Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) Trail Fund, now in its seventh year of supporting volunteer groups dedicated to enhancing off-road vehicle trails across British Columbia. This year, the ORV Trail Fund is backing 19 regional projects that will benefit 16 different communities throughout the province.

Since its inception in 2017, the ORV Trail Fund has provided more than $1.6 million in funding to 139 projects across B.C., thanks to the portion of vehicle registration fees collected by ICBC. The fund aims to enhance off-road vehicle trails, ensuring both B.C. residents and visitors can enjoy quality outdoor recreation experiences. Funding opportunities like the ORV Trail Fund not only improve ORV riding opportunities but also bring significant indirect economic benefits to both rural and urban communities.

The ORV Trail Fund is supported by Recreation Sites and Trails BC (RSTBC), the BC Snowmobile Federation (BCSF), the BC Off-Road Motorcycle Association, ATV-BC, and numerous volunteer groups. These partnerships have been instrumental in leveraging the funds to support substantial improvements in ORV infrastructure and safety.

This year, several BCSF clubs have been awarded funding for various projects:

  • Black Tusk Snowmobile Club: $25,000 for the roof replacement on the Brohm Ridge Chalet.

  • Blue River Powder Packers: $6,700 for digital projects.

  • Fernie Snowmobile Association: $9,666 for signage.

  • Pine Valley Trail Blazers: $19,439 for upgrades to the Silver Sands Shelter.

  • Powder Mountain Snowmobile Club: $25,000 for road maintenance in Brandywine and Metal Dome.

  • Summit Seekers Snowmobile Club: $5,000 for trail signage and cabin access improvements.

  • Valemount and Area Recreation Development Association: $12,000 for a snowmobile staging area outhouse upgrade.

Additionally, the BC Snowmobile Federation itself has been granted $25,000 to fund the addition of avalanche terrain exposure scale layers to the interactive BC provincial snowmobile trail map and to launch a new mobile app.

These projects will significantly enhance the safety, accessibility, and enjoyment of our snowmobile trails, ensuring that both local residents and visitors can have a memorable and safe outdoor adventure.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the volunteer groups and organizations involved in these projects. Your dedication and hard work continue to make a positive impact on our communities and the outdoor recreation opportunities available in British Columbia.
