BCSF Stewardship Program Relaunch: Shaping the Future Together
Snowmobilers in BC are caretakers of more than 18,000 kilometres of trails and over 90 recreation polygons. Collectively, our clubs are the largest managers of public recreation sites outside of BC Parks, a clear sign of how seriously we take our role as trusted partners in caring for these spaces and the communities around them.
At the heart of it all is stewardship. It is the cornerstone of our reputation and the foundation of our land access. Without strong stewardship, we risk not only the places we ride but also the trust we have built with landowners, First Nations, government, and the public.
A lot has changed since the BC Snowmobile Federation (BCSF) last released a stewardship resource in 2008. Today we ride in a new reality shaped by political and economic pressures, climate change, competing land uses, and growing demand on BC’s land base. Rider responsibility and land management expectations have evolved, and snowmobilers are stepping up once again.
It is time to reset. The BCSF is relaunching our Stewardship Program, modernized, values-driven, and built to reflect who we are as snowmobilers today and who we want to be for the future.
What Stewardship Means
For snowmobilers, stewardship is not about rules or restrictions. It is our culture. It is how we carry ourselves, how we interact with the land, and how we build lasting relationships. Stewardship is the reason we are seen as credible, trusted partners in outdoor recreation. It is the cornerstone of our reputation and the foundation of our continued land access.
To many, stewardship means caring for:
The land we ride
The relationships we depend on
The wildlife and environment around us
The infrastructure we build and maintain
The culture we create and share

This relaunch isn’t just about the BCSF; it’s about all of us. Riders, clubs, governments, First Nations, land partners, and other recreation groups all have a stake in what snowmobile stewardship looks like moving forward.
That’s why we’re starting with a survey: The Future of Stewardship: A BC Snowmobiling Community Conversation. This is our kickoff and your chance to share bold ideas, honest feedback, and lived experiences as we begin digging into the next steps of building a modern program together.
It only takes 10 minutes, and your input will help shape a stewardship framework designed for the next generation of riders.
Thank you for being part of this important first step. Your voice matters, and together we can define the future of stewardship in BC.
