Celebrating Success: BC Snowmobile Federation's Top 15 Achievements In 2023

As the new snowmobile season approaches, the BC Snowmobile Federation reflects on a year filled with remarkable achievements and exciting developments. These successes have not only strengthened the snowmobiling community but have also laid the foundation for an even brighter future. Our team proudly presents 15 of the top BC Snowmobile Federation accomplishments over the past year, as we eagerly anticipate another year of growth and progress.

1. Secured a $1.1 Million Federal Investment in BC Snowmobile Infrastructure:

One of our most significant achievements was securing a substantial federal investment to enhance and maintain the snowmobile infrastructure across British Columbia. This program provided funding to 27 Federation clubs and 70 projects ranging from grooming equipment upgrades, new shelters, signage, webcams, and more. Read more.

2. Secured a $300,000 Infrastructure Investment in the South Peace:

We've also made strides in the South Peace region by securing a $300,000 investment in infrastructure development specifically for the Tumbler Ridge, Chetwynd, and Mackenzie areas. This investment will benefit both local riders and the snowmobiling community as a whole.

3. Interactive Trail Map for BC Snowmobile Trails:

We introduced an Interactive Trail Map to make navigating BC snowmobile trails easier and safer. This tool enhances rider compliance and safety by providing real-time information on trail conditions, closures, grooming status and more! The map is currently available in desktop, Garmin devices, as well as in-dash displays on Polaris Ride Command and BRP Go. Watch for the new app launching soon! Explore the map.

4. LetsRideBC Co Op Marketing Program:

BC Snowmobile Federation is proud to be the managing partner for the LetsRideBC program. This initiative has united nine snowmobile community partners, creating a powerful force for sustainable growth in BC snowmobile tourism. The program helps clubs, communities, and businesses maximize their impact by providing funding and marketing support. Explore LetsRideBC here.

5. Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Creation and Implementation:

The implementation of a comprehensive OHS guidance program is a testament to our commitment to snowmobile safety in the province. We've worked diligently to create and implement a number of resources, templates and guidance documents to support our member clubs safety protocols that protect both riders and volunteers working behind the scenes.

6. Governance Project:

Effective governance is the bedrock of our long-term success, strengthening not only the BCSF board but also the boards of our nearly 60 Federation clubs across the province. This project has been designed to streamline processes, ensure transparent decision-making, and robust leadership, essential for the growth and vitality of snowmobiling in British Columbia.

7. Amilia Membership Platform Implementation:

Amilia, launched in the fall of 22/23, has revolutionized snowmobile club operations in British Columbia. This streamlined membership management software reduces administrative burden on clubs, enabling volunteers to focus on other priorities that enhance rider experience on the ground. The membership platform provides a number of rider focused solutions including automatic multi-club discounts and the ability to purchase memberships in one transaction for the entire family.

8. BC Power Sports Coalition:

Our collaboration with the BC Power Sports Coalition has allowed us to work on vital projects, including the ORV Trail Fund and the Trails Best Practice Guide. This year the ORV Fund provided $100,000 to seven BCSF club projects as well as $33,000 to Federation led initiatives including a risk management signage program and new groomer operator training program.

9. Relationship Building with RSTBC:

We've fostered a positive relationship with Recreation Sites and Trails BC (RSTBC), allowing us to advocate for the interests of snowmobilers effectively while conveying the economic, health, and stewardship benefits of organized snowmobiling in the province. Learn more about the benefits of snowmobiling in BC.

10. Volunteer Engagement Study:

Understanding the needs and challenges of our dedicated volunteers is crucial. We partnered with the University of British Columbia to undertake one of the largest studies of its kind on volunteer engagement.  The study has provided valuable insights and helped us formulate a strategic plan for clubs to ensure our volunteers continue to play a vital role in our success.

11. Safety Program & Increased Instructor Qualifications:

We've elevated our SledSafe program and invested in increasing instructor qualifications and availability around the province. This initiative  supports our goal that snowmobilers are well-prepared for safe riding experiences both recreationally and in the workplace. Learn more.

12. Annual General Meeting & Congress:

Our Annual General Meeting and Congress events have been instrumental in bringing together members and stakeholders, fostering opportunities for collaboration and learning on our shared goals.

13. Caribou Recovery Planning Project:

We've actively participated in the Caribou Recovery Planning project in the Selkirks and South Peace regions. Our work with stakeholders on the Adaptive Management Framework is leveraging technology and data driven openings for better separation with riders and protection of caribou habitats. Recent success included a repeal of the Frisby Ridge voluntary closure in Revelstoke, BC. Read more.

14. Club Connect:

Our Club Connect website and chat forums have facilitated better communication, resource sharing, and collaboration among Federation clubs, strengthening our network across the province.

15. Club Congress:

The Club Congress meeting sessions have provided a platform for clubs to exchange ideas and best practices, creating a stronger, more cohesive snowmobiling community in BC.

As we look back at these remarkable achievements, the BC Snowmobile Federation is excited about the year ahead. With our continued dedication to safety, community, and growth, we anticipate even more significant accomplishments on the horizon. Together, we are forging a path for the future of snowmobiling in British Columbia, and we invite you to join us on this exciting journey.
