Growing Up Sledding: Jaxon and Colton’s Story- Two Little Riders With Big Mountain Energy
Meet Jaxon (8) and Colton (4) — two little die-hard sledders who are already stacking memories all over BC’s backcountry. For their family, introducing the boys to snowmobiling and outdoor play early wasn’t a decision so much as a natural extension of who they are. Dad rides sleds, quads, and snowboards; Mom grew up on horseback and skis. The mountains were already home — the boys just joined the tradition.
WHY OUTSIDE MATTERS TO THIS FAMILY
When you ask their parents why they prioritize outdoor time, the answer comes easy:
“In a world where screens can easily take over, getting them out in the fresh air keeps them active, curious, and connected to the real world around them.”
For Jaxon and Colton, riding isn’t just about machines — it’s about the freedom to explore, the confidence that comes from trying new things, and the small-but-important lessons that happen naturally outside. Whether they’re on sleds, skis, or simply on foot, the boys are learning to read terrain, make choices, respect nature, and understand backcountry safety in age-appropriate, hands-on ways.
HOPES FOR THE FUTURE
Their parents hope snowmobiling continues to feed that spark — giving the boys room to grow into responsible, confident riders. They want Jaxon and Colton to keep exploring with the same sense of adventure they have now, but with an understanding of the mountains and the awareness that comes with preparation and good judgment.
Mostly, they hope the outdoors stays a place the boys love for the rest of their lives.

FAVOURITE MOMENTS ON THE SNOW
Jaxon’s Blue Lake Story
Last year at Blue Lake (Sled Sicamous), Jaxon unexpectedly ran into an old school friend — and the two spent the entire day drag-racing on the “official” course built for the event. It’s still the story he tells anyone who will listen.
Colton’s Crowfoot Adventure
Colton’s favourite memory? The day a bump bounced him straight into a creek bed at Crowfoot (Crowfoot Mountain Snowmobile Club).
“But don’t worry,” he proudly tells people, “Dad dug my sled out and I didn’t fall in — but it was close.”
It’s the kind of story every sledder knows: a moment that could’ve gone differently, but turned into a laugh, a lesson, and a memory that sticks.
ABOUT GROWING UP SLEDDING
This series shines a spotlight on the families, clubs, and tiny-but-mighty riders who make B.C.’s snowmobile community what it is. Because for many kids, a love of the outdoors starts with one great day on the snow — and the people who make it possible.
