Public Hearing Scheduled for Proposed Mars Creek Development Near Revelstoke
The BC Snowmobile Federation (BCSF) is providing an update regarding the proposed tourism development near Mars Creek north of Revelstoke following ongoing interest and concerns raised by riders, local clubs, and members of the backcountry recreation community regarding potential impacts to the Keystone area. The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) has now scheduled a public hearing regarding proposed amendments to Electoral Area B Official Community Plan Bylaw No. 850 and Zoning Bylaw No. 851 related to the property located at 2636 Highway 23 North near Lake Revelstoke.
According to planning documents, the proposal involves development of a year-round outdoor recreation and heli-services resort. The application includes up to 100 guest accommodation units, 12 campsites, and 50 staff sleeping units.
The area north of Revelstoke has long been used for snowmobiling and other forms of backcountry recreation, and the BCSF understands there continues to be significant interest and discussion within the riding community regarding potential implications for recreation access, future use, and increased activity in the surrounding area.
